S.I.C. Vol 49: Henshin Ninja Arashi

70’s fans rejoice as Kamen Rider Den-o has either finally stopped or taken a break from getting more SIC releases for an Old School release. Yes that’s right, the 49th SIC release will be from the 1972 Ishinomori series, Henshin Ninja Arashi.

I, myself, know little about this series so I am not certain who exactly is the other guy packed with him. I assume its one of the main villains, similar to how they packed X with Apollo Geist for last year’s SIC release. Some newer fans, those who watched Kamen Rider Hibiki, will recognize him since that show remade his costume as a Monster of the Week type villain: IPB Image
This volume is scuplted by Takayuki Takeya, the co-creator of SIC who usually does the Old School Showa stuff. However I still think, the other co-creator, Kenji Ando (who does the Heisei stuff) is much better than him. Takeya himself is a great designer but his figures lack articulation and general playability. The Kamen Rider X figure released last year felt like it came from 2003, because of its weak joint movements. Takeya still uses ball joints for arms unlike Ando who gave SIC the new staff joints and intricate poseability. But let see if anything changes here.
I hope this means the end of SIC Den-o and for Kenji Ando and Takayuki Takeya to start making some old shows and then jump right back into either Kabuto, or Kiva.
